Cintsa East iBhungane/Dung beetle project
The dung beetle project was initiated to raise awareness around consumption and waste in our village, Cintsa East. The Hearth would like to thank the following humans for their support: Debbie Tudhope, Hannelie Erasmus, Rachelle Bartholomew, Tersia Vermaak, Dennis Vollies Taylor, Cindy Warren, Pam Heaton, Vicky Evans, Jane Price (drawing class students); Cintsa Thatching, Sam Bailey, Jonathan Denison (tenants of Atalaia Building); Vincent Gore and Steve Avidon - thank you everyone! The sculpture shall evolve - let's get this sh*t rolling!
Yesterday we took part in the International Coastal Clean Up Day - that really filled up a lot of plastic bottles quickly! Thanks to all the awesome laaities, the WESSA stewards, Nokuphumla Pakamile, Kerry McLean and Steve 'Buttercup' Avidon for assisting with this project! The dung beetle is now happily pushing its ball of sh*t outside The Hearth in Chintsa Drive. Well, we don't know if it's actually happy, having to roll plastic, instead of manure...
This is Teddy Mutasa and the giant dung beetle that drawing class students and tenants of our building commissioned him to make out of wire and beads. We just started collecting plastic bottles and filling them up with plastic to make the giant plastic dung ball that will become an ongoing public sculpture outside The Hearth:
